Bridgwater United manager Lee Lashenko sat down with the media team the day after Wednesday night’s 3-1 defeat to Clevedon to get his thoughts on the game and the start of the season.
“We knew Clevedon would be a lively and difficult team,” he said. “When we went down to 10 men, that made it even harder. I’m proud that even with a man down, we went toe-to-toe with them and went in at halftime a goal up.”
Lee went on to reflect on how the game developed after the restart. “For over an hour we held our own, but eventually the man difference took a toll and credit to Clevedon for taking their chances. We are going to learn a lot from this game.”
With the season still in its early stages, the gaffer also spoke about the squad’s progress. “We are frustrated, and we want to do better, but this is a new group of players, and whenever you have a new bunch, it takes a while to gel. No one is daunted by the challenge ahead. The beauty of a football league is that we’re going to have our chance to right wrongs and get these points back from these teams later in the season.”
Lee pressed the importance of staying focused and working hard in the weeks ahead. “We’re constantly getting closer as a group, and we’re going to keep working as hard as we possibly can. I believe in the players’ capabilities and hope we can show better on the pitch very soon.”
Bridgwater are back home at Fairfax Park against St Austell on Saturday, 16th August, for a 3pm kickoff. We look forward to seeing you there!
