Bridgwater United are delighted to announce that Matt Lewton has joined the club in the role of First Team Coach ahead of the 2025/26 Western League season.
As preparations ramp up ahead of the 2025/26 season, Manager Lee Lashenko has been working tirelessly behind the scenes to strengthen his backroom team — and we’re delighted to officially welcome Matt Lewton as our new First Team Coach. 🤝
Matt joins the club from Brislington FC, where he led their Under-18s as Manager. Alongside his work at Brislington, Matt runs a successful 1-on-1 coaching school in Bristol, which has helped develop players at grassroots and academy levels. Before moving into coaching, Matt enjoyed a playing career in the Western League, representing a number of clubs, including Oldland Abbotonians.
He also brings with him a wealth of experience from the professional academy system, having spent five years coaching within top academies across the South West. His time in elite environments has given him a strong understanding of player development, high-performance standards, and modern coaching methodologies.
A highly respected coach with a passion for youth development, Matt was honoured with the West of England’s Children Coach of the Year award in 2012. He also received the BANES Community Award in recognition of his contributions through his coaching school.
Speaking to Bridgwater United’s media team following his move, Matt shared his excitement: “I’m proud and excited to be working alongside Lee, Grantley, and Ben. This is a fantastic opportunity for me to contribute both on and off the field, and I’m ready to give everything I’ve got to help this football club succeed.”
We’re excited to see Matt bring his expertise and passion to the first team environment.
