Match Preview: Tavistock (H)

All roads should lead to Fairfax Park tomorrow night when goal hungry Bridgwater United lock horns with league pace setters Tavistock, looking to complete a double on the Devon Lambs and close the gap at the top to distinctly manageable proportions.

Bridgwater United v Tavistock
Friday 22nd October, 7.45pm
Toolstation Western League
Fairfax Park

Dave Pearse’s side have shrugged off a long list of injuries which would have sapped the strength of lesser squads and 19 goals in three and a half games shows they are now a force to be reckoned with in a league where the top ten all appear to be beating each other. Tavy, Bitton, Buckland Athletic and Ilfracombe Town lead the way but have collectively lost ten games already and a win for the Robins on Friday would put them up to fourth, five points behind the lead but with two games in hand.

Tavistock put seven on a youthful but outclassed Bridport on Saturday but Bitton and Helston drew 1-1 and Ilfracombe kept up their impressive form by easing past Keynsham at Marlborough Park. It all points the way to an exciting section of the season where the Robins have a league challenge, another stab at the Les Phillips Cup and the small matter of their seasonal debut in the FA Vase to come. The first round proper is this Saturday and the draw which all Bridgy fans will be looking out for is released on the Monday after.

This Friday could well see a crowd of 500-600 so supporters are urged to get to the ground early as the bar will be open and with the weather expected to be dry after a wettish week, a super atmosphere is assured.

Tom Ellis, Dave Thorne and Mark Armstrong are all expected to be back to full fitness, with new recruit Sam Hedges available, meaning the gaffer has a pleasant selection problem to deal with and with the home support behind them it all promises to be a special night at Fairfax Park.
