Match Preview: Saltash United (H)

Bridgwater United will be hoping to continue their winning form in front of an anticipated large crowd at Fairfax Park tomorrow afternoon.

Bridgwater United v Saltash United
Saturday 28th August, 3pm
Toolstation Western League
Fairfax Park

Saltash United are enjoying their first season back in the Western League since 1995 and have marked it to date with two league wins and a draw from the first three matches. They began the new campaign with a 2-0 home victory over Tavistock then four days later a Callum O’Brien goal secured an away point at much-fancied Helston.

The FA Cup gave them a tasty local derby with fellow Cornish side Millbrook who held them to a 2-2 draw with Sam Farrant and Callum Martindale on target but after cruising to a 3-0 half-time lead in the replay they threw away what was a bizarre and exciting game by losing 6-4 after extra-time at Kimberley Stadium.

They recovered well to beat Clevedon Town and then enjoyed a day out in Bristol by thrashing Brislington 8-0 with Sam Farrant bagging five. Last Wednesday the side went to Helston for the return league game and a 0-0 draw left them handily placed in fifth with a game in hand on the top three.

Dave Pearse’s injury-cursed squad will be hoping that Jake Llewellyn will have recovered from a hamstring tweak late on the game at Bridport on Tuesday as there are still a number on the treatment table, all hoping to be fit for the packed league and cup schedule coming up in the next fortnight.
