Bridgwater United will be looking to build on last Saturday’s stunning seven goal demolition of Brislington this weekend when Western League new boys Mousehole visit Fairfax Park for a Premier Division fixture writes Kerry Miller.

The Seagulls from the lower tip of Cornwall were at Saltash United on Wednesday evening, one their local derbies which is still a 150 mile round trip and went home comfortable 3-1 winners with Josh Malins hitting a double and Portuguese wide player Paulo Sousa proving a real handful.

The Trungle Parc outfit are enjoying their first season at this level and their matches have so far provided a fair share of goals and Saturday should be no exception with the Robins cock a hoop after five goals in the last dozen or so minutes sent Brislington’s manager home with the probability of a discipline charge hanging over him.

Mousehole (for those unaware the village is pronounced Mowzul) lies a couple of miles south of Penzance although the ground itself is in the neighbouring village of Paul. The team sit a point behind Bridgwater but with two games in hand and arrive with home boss Dave Pearse still short of Tom Ellis, Jacob Spence and Jake Llewellyn who are still on the injured list. The squad has thinned out recently as both Spanish teenagers Roger Blazquez and Wellington Jimenez have left the club and returned to London but young Harry Durant is expected to keep his place in the defence after a string of impressive performances since being promoted from the youth side and relocated to full back from his striker position.

The U18 side are back in action on the college pitch as they also prepare to entertain league new boys, in their case Paulton Rovers in the South West Counties Youth League, ko 10.30am.

Last Saturday’s dramatic victory over Bath City gave Mo Hopkins’ side a second league win and with a victory under their belt previously in the Gary Else League Cup it has been a fine start to the campaign.

With the weather set for the start of an Indian summer and both sides on form, a tasty competitive double awaits with the Fairfax Park bar open from noon.
