While the squad had a weekend off results in the Western League Premier Division went largely in their favour with Tavistock and Exmouth drawing 2-2 on the Friday night and Ilfracombe Town and Saltash United losing. Bitton were in Gloucestershire Premier Cup action and only Helston gained any ground as they got past Ashton and Backwell United.

Saturday’s opponents Millbrook posted an important victory over Ilfracombe Town, but still lay third bottom in the table, just ahead of Bridport and Ashton and Backwell. Dave Pearse and Karl Baggaley will be well aware of their challenge which began earlier in the season when the Cornish side were 3-0 up at half-time before United came back, aided by a brace of penalties from Jack Taylor to snatch a point. The squad is expected to be more or less at full strength which has meant that two players have gone out to other clubs under dual registration to get some important game time. Archie Sturdy is having a few games for Middlezoy Rovers in the Somerset County League while Tom Ellis is doing likewise in Bristol for Hellenic League title challengers Cribbs.

Fans can expect to see Cameron Gauci in action on Saturday as the young Welshman has been training with the first team and now international clearance has been granted, the former Dinas Powis FC wide player should be in the squad.

Before that, Mo Hopkins’s U18 side are back in action after they, too, had a weekend off due to representative call ups and welcome Wimborne Town to the college, 10.30am. Having already clinched the much postponed League Cup and gone unbeaten to date in the league they are playing some tremendous football and will be expected to have a say in this year’s league and cup.

On Sunday, Bridgwater United Women travel to Oxford United for a FAWNL League Cup match which will take some pressure off the playing surface at Fairfax Park following their postponement of the Southampton game last Sunday.

Next Tuesday the Dave Pearse’s side have another home game when Wellington come up the A38 for a Western League match, 7.45pm.
