Bridgwater United take the high road to Cadbury Heath on Saturday buoyed by four straight wins which has elevated them to third in the Western League Premier Division and to a place in the Third Round of the FA Vase.

Returning Sam Crumb’s late winner against a battling Ashton and Backwell United last Saturday was a huge boost for the side which was missing a number through injuries and a one match suspension for leading scorer Jack Taylor, and Dave Pearse will be looking to extend that winning run to five at Springfield. The home side have won just four of their 21 league games and sit seven points ahead of Ashton and Backwell but having played four games more. Dean Preddie leads the goalscoring chart for Heath with nine to date although veteran striker Matt Huxley is still going strong with more than 400 Western League goals and counting.

Mike Duffy, Jake Viney, Nick Woodrow and Harry Durant lead the injury list with Jordan Greenwood suspended for one match after compiling five cautions as the Robins look to close the ten point gap to Tavistock at the top with two games in hand.

United have captured the signature of 19 year old keeper Callum Plaistow as cover for Jake Viney who took a clattering on Saturday late in the game against Ashton and Backwell United.

The young Bristolian is based in Weston-super-Mare and has been playing Devon and Exeter League football for Topsham Town and University of Exeter FC.

Meanwhile central defender Tom Ellis has been released by the club. The former Wellington man has had a lengthy spell on the sidelines with injury and played in the game on Saturday after signing dual registration with Hellenic League Cribbs. Chairman Bob Buckingham said, “Tom’s hard work and commitment has helped us build a strong foundation for future success at our club. We would like to place on record our sincere thanks to him for everything that he has helped the Club achieve over the seasons he has spent with us. We wish him all the very best, wherever his footballing endeavours next take him”.

Meanwhile Mo Hopkins’ U18 side continued their campaign with a win over Bath City in the Gary Else Cup group stage and travel to Swindon Supermarine on Saturday morning for a top of the table clash. The following day sees Bridgwater Women gearing up for their historic WFA Cup tie with Crystal Palace at Fairfax Park on Sunday week with a league game at Hounslow WFC. The west London side have lost all eight league games so far in the Southern Premier League and the game, at Hanworth Villa FC, kicks off at 2pm.
