Bridgwater United go into the relative unknown tomorrow when they travel to SW Peninsula League Premier Division side Brixham AFC in the FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round.

The Devon club will be playing their first ever match as a merged side having teamed up with Brixham Villa FC in 2012 and enjoyed elevated status following the reorganisation of step 5 and 6 in the summer. Unsurprisingly nicknamed the Fisherman, Brixham still play at Wall Park, the home of the original club since the 1950s which hosted Western League football back in the 70s.

It may be a nostalgic revisit to the area for a few older supporters as the housing estate built just behind the ground was formerly the site of Wall Park Pontins holiday camp and it has added to the tightly enclosed feel of the place which will be buzzing tomorrow according to their social media platforms.

The side got off to a fine start in the league on Tuesday, beating Ivybridge Town 4-0 with a hat-trick from striker Cole Harford and they will give United a tough test despite their step six status.

Dave Pearse was pleased with the battling performance on Tuesday, holding much-fancied and big spending Bitton to a goalless draw, having shipped four at home to Buckland Athletic the previous Saturday and continues to blood youngsters with youth team wide midfielder Sully McKenna coming into the squad. Early season injuries have taken their toll with Ryan Brereton, Ross Edwards and Nick Woodrow out but Brixham’s narrow but excellent surface should suit the ball players.

Parking
Supporters travelling independently are reminded that there is no onsite parking at the ground but it is only a few dozen yards from Wall Park Road where parking is available.

Being some distance from the town centre and the harbour means walking it is not practical but the clubhouse and food bar is well stocked and ready and waiting for the red hordes to descend upon them. Visitors are also reminded that dogs are not welcome on the ground.

The game is to be featured in Sunday’s Non League Paper and there is no provision for extra-time and any replay would be at Fairfax Park on Tuesday, kick-off 7.45pm.
