Bridgwater United supporters potentially have a feast of football around Fairfax Park this weekend with all three teams in league action.

With the transport crisis kicking in, many matches around the country have fallen foul of dry fuel pumps which has led to a raft of postponements but at the time of writing the Robins’ first team prepare to entertain Brislington in the Western League Premier Division buoyed by a remarkable second half come back at Millbrook last Saturday.

Two penalties from Jack Taylor, converted in the absence of the injured Jake Llewellyn and a strike from Archie Sturdy secured what was looking like an increasingly unlikely point and Dave Pearse and Karl Baggaley will be hoping to take the momentum into Saturday’s game. Brislington went out of the FA Vase last Saturday when they lost 2-1 at home to Ashton and Backwell United at Ironmould Lane but they currently stand a point above the Robins after ten league games where they have won five and lost five.

United still had Dave Thorne, Tom Ellis, Jacob Spence and Jake Llewellyn on the injured list last weekend and all are hoping that situation eases very soon as autumn arrives and the early season fixture cramming comes to a close in time for the FA Vase which Bridgwater enter after the next round.

Earlier on Saturday Mo Hopkins’ U18 side look to continue their excellent form as they take on Bath City on the college 3g pitch at 10.30am in the South West Counties League. A hat-trick from Sully McKenna was the highlight of last Saturday’s 6-1 victory at New College Swindon backed up by a brace from Ollie Chubb and one from Cam Byrom  in the Gary Else Memorial Cup.

Matches against Bath City are always tense and exciting and this should be no different.

Then on Sunday Bridgwater United Women take on Plymouth Argyle Women at Fairfax Park, ko 2pm in the National League Southern Premier Division. The Devon side have just three points from their first five games and with Keynsham Town in the wings for a league game on Wednesday night, the Robins’ Women will be looking to bank all six points and give themselves a hefty shove up the league table from their current sixth position.
