Bridgwater United 1 Torpoint Athletic 0

 Match Report:

Bridgwater United 1 Torpoint Athletic 0 att 341 Before the match got underway there was a minutes applause for ex-Bridgy player Steve Blewett who sadly passed away recently.

The Robins were missing recent new signings Craig Woodman and Lewis Smith plus Josh Wadham, Liam Winter and the suspended Preston Hopwood. Manager Richard Pears gave league debuts to Dave Rowe from Exmouth Town, Ryan Crawford from WsM and Benjani Jr from Street.

As early as the 2nd minute Crawford beat his man wide on the left and sent in a decent ball that eluded the onrushing Jack Taylor. Taylor then returned the compliment but Crawford was unable to gather. No clear cut chances in the first fifteen minutes with Price and Rowe strong at the back, although Torpoint were missing their suspended top scorer Luke Cloke. On 16 minutes the games first chance as Torpoint’s Mason Elliot headed over from the left. Kingston then went down needing treatment. On 29 came the games first yellow as the visors Chapman was booked for fouling Noah Brown. Just after the half hour came Bridgey’s best chance, Duffy sent in free kick from the left that was met by Prices fierce header. Keeper Rickard produced a sure save to tip the ball onto the bar. HT 0-0 Benjanis cross then found Crawford whose goal bound shot was blocked. On 56 Duffy had a weak shot saved well low down. A minute later came the only goal of the game as Athletic failed to clear in the box, it fell kindly to Wacko who rounded the keeper and slid the ball home for his sixth of the season. Haden replaced Benjani as Torpoint manager Fice was shown a yellow. Wacko had a superb run and cross blasted over by Haden. Brown and Pfupa picked up yellows as Koppa replaced Armstrong and Rob Farkins continued his comeback replacing Crawford.

Not a convincing or dominant performance but three points and a clean sheet.
