Robins’ boss Dave Pearse added another important component to his squad for the upcoming Western League and FA Cup matches when influential winger Jake Brown committed to the club following the 4-1 home friendly win over Welsh Leaguers Taffs Well on Saturday, writes Kerry Miller.

Brown played against the Robins in the Les Phillips Cup final defeat to Bradford Town just over a year ago then played in the winning final last May against Cadbury Heath and has now decided to join the club again. Brown joins another exciting winger in 21 year old Ollie Hebbard, who has joined following a successful campaign with promoted Sherborne Town, where he was a regular goalscorer. He will be well known to local football people having been at neighbours Street and it is hoped he will add another dimension to the attack.

Also at the club and expected to sign is young winger Conor Hartley, who was with Ashton and Backwell United before having spells last season at Taunton Town and Bideford, and full back Arthur Furness who is based in Bristol but has been playing in Welsh National League football for Cardiff Met and also Risca FC.

Cameron Gauci, who figured mainly on the bench last season, has been released and Mike Duffy has been playing in Southern League Willand’s pre-season friendlies so far this summer.

Off the pitch Fairfax Park is looking a picture, as is the playing surface and with only two more matches before the season proper begins Robins’ fans will be checking the map books for routes to Helston and Bideford in the first seven days. Pearce and number two Karl Baggaley would have hoped for an easier start with a league trip to Helston on July 30, only two games after beating them in the Les Phillips Cup semi-final. Then big spending Barnstaple Town visit Fairfax Park on Tuesday August 2 before another away day in the extra-preliminary round of the FA Cup when Bridgwater go to Southern League Bideford on August 6.

Early indications are that there will be a supporter’s coach going to Helston alongside the player’s bus and details will be available on the club’s social media shortly.

Meanwhile the pre-season continues tonight (Tuesday) when Southern League Dorchester Town visit for a 7.45pm ko and with the following Saturday free for some intense beach work the final run out is against Somerset County League Somerton Town a week today.
